Ten Minutes of Dance in the Morning

Dance describes a woman's nature more precisely than words do. Peruquois explains how to build a morning practice from it and what it gives the body and the mood.

Modern life takes a great deal from a woman and leaves her with tension, emptiness and weakness. Ways of refilling that supply have existed for a long time, older than any method, and one of the most effective is dance. How simple movement brings a woman back to herself, and how to assemble a morning practice out of it, was described by Peruquois, a top World Music performer in Australia, author and facilitator of self-development trainings for women.

The list worth making

Peruquois suggests starting with a question that sounds easy and answers hard. What words describe a woman's world. Not the one she lives in now, but the one nature intended.

General notions like joy, happiness and abundance she removes from the list immediately, they clarify nothing.

What can go on that female list? The body, beauty, voice, self-expression, creativity, love, birth, cyclicity, care, nurture, pleasure. Nearly every one of those words also describes dance.

Why dance specifically

Dance is the simplest, most engaging and most natural psycho-energetic technique available to every woman.

Rhythmic movement to music has belonged to the traditions of every people since deep antiquity, and that is no accident. Humanity recognized long ago both the sacred nature of dance and its capacity to be a source of living emotion.

What is meant here is movement close to meditation, and stage choreography has nothing to do with it. This is a universal language able to speak without words about what is being lived and about the most private wishes. In it a woman opens to the world again, stops worrying and searching for meanings, and simply embodies her nature in real time.

What happens to the mood

If a woman is often in low spirits, dance becomes serious support for her psyche.

Energetic movement to music noticeably lowers the level of tension. The breath becomes rhythmic in those minutes, and that starts the production of endorphins, the mechanism of a calm and happy state.

Dance releases the inner clamps that form from sad thoughts and stress. Stiffness goes, the heart and vessels come back to normal, general stamina rises.

Dance with elements of massage

To her breathing, sound and meditative practices Peruquois suggests adding a separate dance routine suitable for any woman. She has done it herself for many years without missing a day.

Its distinguishing feature is the self-massage built into the movement. Through it you can reach important female centers that normally get no attention at all, including the area of the ovaries. Done correctly, the practice opens a great many private doors, helps activate femininity and starts moving energetic blocks out of the body.

Beyond that, it creates the very states from the list: self-expression, creativity, love, cyclicity, pleasure, care.

How the morning sequence is built

The sequence runs about ten minutes and has two parts.

The first part is the dance with elements of massage. The second is done freestyle, the way you feel like moving today.

Women move to Peruquois's songs, which have been called the most feminine music on the planet. For this practice the tracks Let the Shakti In, I Am Not a Good Girl (Wild Woman), She and Ecstasy work especially well. You will find them on the website in the music section.

There is nothing complicated in the routine and it can be done on your own. Through rhythmic movement the tension stored in the body is released and neutralized.

Two conditions Peruquois names separately. First: it matters to switch off from thinking entirely, so you get real pleasure from the nonverbal conversation with your own body, and to learn that language day by day. Second: watch the breath closely.

What it becomes after a month

Ten minutes in the morning looks like a trifle, and the first days feel exactly that way.

Then things start changing that have no direct relationship to dance. The mood holds steadier through the middle of the day. There is less pull to start the morning with the phone. The sense returns that the body is a pleasant place to be rather than a mechanism that has to be maintained.

A woman does not need to learn to dance for dance to start working. She needs to let her body move the way it wants to, and within a few minutes it will find the language her nature speaks.

And if you want to fill yourself with love and pleasure every day, take Peruquois's course Morning Dance, you will find it on the website under Courses.
