What a Baby in the Womb Takes From Its Mother

Before birth there is no barrier between mother and child. Peruquois explains why everything a woman lives through in pregnancy becomes her baby's experience.

Any mother knows how strong the bond with her child is. Almost every one of them feels it when something has happened to him, even from hundreds of miles away. It is wired into a woman at the deepest level, and before birth the bond works closer still, because mother and child are essentially one. On what exactly a baby receives in the womb, Peruquois, a top World Music performer in Australia, a musician, composer, author and facilitator of personal development trainings for women.

A shared field

Peruquois leaves the medical side to doctors and says so directly: she is not a geneticist and will not discuss the link between a mother's health and her baby's from that angle.

She is talking about something else. With a baby in the womb a woman shares more than physiology. They share emotions and they share an energetic field, and all of it is connected.

“What we live through during pregnancy charges our child like a phone battery when you plug in a power bank,” says Peruquois.

The image is precise. The charge runs constantly, without pauses and without your participation, and what gets transmitted is exactly what is in the source.

What travels along with the love

“You transmit your emotions and your energetic states to the baby directly. There is no barrier between you,” says Peruquois.

Essentially everything a woman lives through becomes her baby's experience. Her love. Her confidence. Her fear. Her emotional wounds and energetic imbalance.

Which gives the practical conclusion: a mother's state during these nine months works on the same level as nutrition and rest.

The fears of pregnancy

Peruquois is calm about these fears and treats them as natural.

A woman lives through many of them while she is pregnant. Fear of problems carrying the baby, fear of the birth, worry about the child's health afterward, doubt about whether she will manage as a mother. This is normal. But the force of that fear can be reduced.

Then she explains the mechanism. Most of these fears are simply mental projections with no real cause behind them. Fear itself is a response to danger, and if the danger is illusory there is no real cause for fear. “And if we can imagine that we are bigger than any of our fear, it will dissolve like mist,” says Peruquois.

The man beside her

She speaks about the man separately, and gives him a far larger role than is customary.

His significance is not limited to being present at the birth, where he becomes the pillar. During the pregnancy he matters just as much. Peruquois compares his task to the role of a graphite rod in a nuclear reactor: entering a woman, he balances the inner chaos amplified by the enormous hormonal changes.

It works through simple things. Support. A kind word. Embraces. Presence and attention. Closeness. All of it fills a woman with the sense that everything is fine, that everything is right, and that she will manage.

And that confidence is passed on to the baby. He feels he is arriving into a safe and loving world where he is wanted. “That feeling is probably the most important thing a mother can give her child,” says Peruquois.

A healthy loving field

A healthy loving field is ideal for the forming of a baby.

“The field of the mother's health is the field of the child's health,” says Peruquois. Which means everything matters at once: physical exercise, breathing practices, healthy food and a healthy emotional field of love. That is the direct transmission from mother to child.

So her advice to a couple runs like this: together with your husband, protect the field of your love. That love is what feeds your future child.

The sound that reaches him first

Hearing works long before birth, and sound becomes one of the first experiences a baby receives.

Peruquois puts it alongside food and breath. Everyone knows that classical music has a deep positive effect on our psyche, and so its effect on the baby is no smaller. To that she adds what she knows from her own work: the effect of her voice on people's states has been confirmed by many experiments.

What matters even more than the music is the state it brings the mother into. Calm breathing, released shoulders, warmth in the chest travel to the baby through the same channel as anxiety.

Nine months worth living in your own state

Pregnancy in public conversation has been reduced almost entirely to tests, dates and a list of prohibitions. All of that is important and all of it stands. Alongside it, one more thing is worth holding: a baby receives his mother's state in full, and it is the one channel she influences directly every single day.

A woman who takes care of her own peace in these months as seriously as she takes care of her nutrition is doing for her child exactly what he will carry forward.
